The stain on a log home provides two important functions: protecting the home and beautifying the home. We take both functions very seriously. A high-quality stain will prevent water from absorbing into the logs -- but it will also allow water that does get into the logs (through checks, hair-line cracks, etc.) to escape in a gaseous form. We offer multiple products to fit different needs and budgetary constraints, and over 90% of the time we use water-based products.
Staining is something that truly takes a watchful eye and a discipline for detail. Many can stain something at waist-level and do a fair job. Working at 40 feet in the air on a hill and needing to make your ladder moves before you leave lap marks is a different animal, though! Indeed, good staining is the result of proper planning (requires a lot of experience) and adequate masking.
