Log Home Restoration – Chinking

One of the most eco-friendly moves you can make on your log home is to have us install chinking or Energy Seal. Chinking is a latex sealant that looks like traditional mortar, but is more durable and creates a tighter seal. Energy Seal has the appearance of a texturing caulking, and is designed to blend into the stained logs.

Plainly, there is no better way to prevent water intrusion, insect problems, and air loss/air infiltration than by sealing your home with chinking or Energy Seal. One of the great things about chinking and sealants is that once they are applied correctly, they only need periodic touch-ups. You don’t need to go back and re-chink your home as a part of routine maintenance.

Chinking and Energy Seal installation are by far our most difficult service. It takes us months to train our guys to where they are good enough to be left alone while installing these sealants. It takes a deft touch, and is
definitely not for the impatient! An inexperienced person installing sealants can leave you with the most unattractive result that you could imagine. Not only that, if the chinking or Energy Seal is installed incorrectly, it can actually cause your logs to rot!
